Coach J's comments:

What a great, gut check win for the Jacks in a big game setting.  The Wildcats had an early 1-0 lead until our four run fourth inning.  The inning was highlighted by run producing hits off the bats of Sherry Chan and Jess Carson.  The Wildcats took the lead again in the bottom of the sixth by a 5-4 score.  We started our last at bat in the seventh with a strikeout, followed by a single by Bethany Colman.  The Wildcats retired our next hitter and we looked to be in tough shape with two outs and only one runner on base.  Dariann Freer came up with the clutch two out hit of the game, ripping a run scoring triple.  Sherry Chan followed with a solid single to give us the lead and Jess Carson finished up the rally with a two run home run to right field.  That was our first home run of the season and it couldn't have come at a better time.  Jess Audette pitched an excellent game, striking out 14 batters.  Our defense was pretty solid. Amber Gable came up with a great diving catch of a fly ball to end the Wildcats inning in the sixth.  That turned out to be a key defensive play in our victory.   Sherry Chan and Jess Carson each had three hits.  Bethany Colman and Dariann Freer had two hits, while Nichole Peters and Sadie Riendeau also contributed hits. It was a great team effort in a pivotal game in our series with the Wildcats.

Coach J's comments:

We jumped our early, swinging the bats well.  I was happy with our at bats in this game obviously, as as we rapped out 17 hits.  We were aggressive at the plate and on the bases.  Jess Howard, Nichole Peters, and Amber Gabel each had three hits.  Danielle Gibson, Bethany Colman, and Sherry Chan had two hits apiece while Dariann Freer and Jess Carson joined the hit parade, each getting a double.  Danielle Gibson gave us a very solid pitching performance.  She kept the Wildcats off balance with her nifty change of speeds and had excellent control.  She scattered nine hits without allowing a base on balls.  Our defense played very well again, particularly our infield defense.  The only negative of the day was an injury to Bethany Colman.  She is very doubtful for our games tomorrow.  That will hurt us, both offensively and defensively.  We will need others to step up.  We are now in good shape to advance to the regional tournament next week.  We need to win one game tomorrow, out of a possible three games.  The pressure will be on the Wildcats but we cannot let up.  It will take another good team effort for us to pick up a win and advance into tournament play.
