Coach J's comments:
This was a great way to finish the two day experience. We hit the ball well, defended well, and our pitchers did a great job of battling through fatigue. After dropping behind early by giving up five unearned runs, we exploded in the bottom of the third for six runs. We put together six hits in that inning highlighted by a a two run home run by Jess Mehling. Jess had a big day with four hits and five runs driven in. Collecting two hits were Destiny Kaus, Jillian Hole, and Sadie Riendeau. Also adding hits were Whitley Naismith, Maria Espindola, AliceAnn Sloan, and Amanda Schmidt. Destiny and Jillian also knocked in two runners each. Amanda pitched the first three innings giving up 0 earned runs on eight hits. She struck out 2 and allowed no walks. Jillian came in and picked up the win with a solid relief performance. She worked the final three innings and did not allow any runs and gave up only two hits. She struck out two without allowing any bases on balls. This was really a positive day and two day experience for us. We found out a lot about our team. I was really happy with our pitching. Amanda and Jillian especially threw well, keeping us in each game and giving us a chance to win. I was really impressed with their control as they allowed very few base runners on walks. We hit and fielded better as the games went on. We needed that live action. Jess had an outstanding six game series, going 13 for 21 at the plate. She drove in 13 runs, had a home run, a triple, and five doubles. Overall it was a very good experience. We hope the nice weather continues so we can get outside and keep some momentum going.
